HISTORY OF SALE CAR - 1970 was the era of Production Cars, when Holden Ford were strongly competing for the Annual Bathurst Trophy, to enter into Bathurst in this era the race cars had to be substantially the same car as the cars which were produced and sold to the general public (ie Production Car Racing). Ford produced & sold 287 XW GT-HO Phase II cars, only 12 were manufactured with the stunning Electric Blue metallic paint colour. During the latter part of 1970, (when Ford were designing experimenting with the concept XY GT-HO Phase III car in readiness for Bathurst 1971) some of the XW Production Cars had numerous extra's and variants to the earlier Phase II's. Our sale car was built in September 1970, (just before Allan Moffat's first Bathurst win) and rolled off the factory floor with many of the Phase III's components, including a beefed-up race cam, a 780cfm double pumper Holley carburettor, 31 spline 9 inch diff and close ratio top loader gearbox. The factory exhaust manifolds have since been replaced with extractors. This engine will comfortably rev out to 8,500rpm and is believed to produce more horsepower than the XY Phase III Production Car, which was rated at 380 Hp. Due to the fact that many Phase II production engines were Blowing-up from over revving, Ford placed an electronic rev limiter on the XY GT-HO Phase III Production Car restricting its ability to rev beyond 6,150rpm. Even though this engine was limited it still produced up to 380 Hp. The 1st Owner of our XW Sale Car was tragically killed in a Car Race Accident (Not involving the XW). His wife left it garaged for 20 years, before selling it. Little is known about It's second owner, who only held it for a short period of time before being purchased by Mark Lamb. Mark knew that he had a very special vehicle and arranged for Frank Portello to conduct a full 'Nuts Bolts' restoration in the mid 1990's. (Note: After completing this restoration Mark Lamb then commenced completed a full 'Nuts Bolts' restoration on an Electric Blue XY GT-HO Phase III, which sold for $1.15 million in 2020). The quality of the paint work on our Sale Car is second-to-none, thanks to the expertise of Jay Tupac. Mark Lamb has confirmed with me that this car has never had any rust or panel damage, it's condition is similar to when 1st sold. The current owner purchased this fully restored car about 22 years ago. As a private car enthusiast he has meticulously maintained and cared for this car, keeping it as original as possible. He has added performance extractors to further boost it's power and has professionally recrafted the '5 Slotters' into 15” x 7” rims (factory originals were 14” x 6”), further increasing the top-end speed and stability with more rubber on the ground. This car still has it's original 351 Cleveland V8 motor with matching numbers (engine number is the same as the chassis number) and it has been continually registered on the same black white Victorian number plates as issued when it was first registered in 1970. In it's 54 years this car has only travelled a genuine 56,050 miles. Since its restoration it has never been driven in the wet. Undoubtably this car, that we have the pleasure to offer for sale, is probably one of the last Genuine Ford Falcon XW GT-HO Phase II's in pristine original condition. But, don't be fooled this car is not for the feint hearted, this is a race ready car with unbelievable power and acceleration. As an historic piece of Australian motoring, this car deserves to be in a museum for all to enjoy its marvel mystique. - NB: This item is GST Exempt.
